Since a blog is central to an agent’s social marketing strategy you should begin by setting up your blog. After setting up your blog, you will use social media sites to feed traffic to your blog.
The first three things that you need to accomplish in setting up a blog are
1) picking a niche
2) researching keywords and
3) picking a name.
These three topics are all interrelated, which makes it difficult for a beginner to know where to start in order to make the right decisions. So we are going to take it one step at a time.
Since blogging is all about niche marketing, this is where we will start…….by picking a niche
To decide about a niche consider the following:
Determine your motivations for your blog. What kind of real estate consumer do you enjoy working with most? One common mistake people make when starting a new blog, is that they don’t have a clear understanding of who their market really is.
And, please…….the answer to this question should not be “everybody.” You won’t reach “anybody” by trying to be all things to “everybody.”
So start by defining your Ideal Customer….this is the person you’re looking for as your blog reader.
Look back over your business for the last 2 years. Is there a certain type of person that you enjoyed working with most? Describe this person. What did you share in common with these people (such as hobbies, passions or activities?
The point is, you need to know who you want to talk to and what their strongest need is from you.
Where will you find these people? What organizations might they belong to? What activities might they engage in?
Why should you do all of this? Because…. if you waste all your time and money focusing on the wrong people, your blog will not accomplish its purpose.
Now analyze your niche choice. Look at the MLS data to see approximately how many transactions of this type occurred in the last 3 months, 6 months and 12 months? Does it look like a profitable niche?
